Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Hundreds of residents not only men but also women wallowed in mud in the Sutoyo S River, Central Banjarmasin, Wednesday, to commemorate the 25th World Water Day. 


They dared to go down the river in the mud lift race organized by the River Hall of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in collaboration with the government of Banjarmasin.

"400 people who participated in the mud lift competition. They belong to 40 groups," said Head of the River Department of Banjarmasin Public Works and Spatial Planning Joko Pitoyo on the location of activities.

Each group consisted of 10 people to be able to collect as much river mud and lifted onto a truck has been provided by the committee.

"Although they are not the champion, the participants will get the exhausted money Rp100 thousand for each person," he said.

According to Joko Pitoyo, the mud to be lifted only about 400 meters of the river, although the Sutoyo S river is thousands of meters in length and is quite shallow.

"At least this activity help little to facilitate the flow of the river leading to the mouth of the Barito River," he said.

In Banjarmasin, he said, there are about 102 rivers still quite active, and the city government assisted by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to perform its preservation.
