Angkot Drivers Reject Free Transportation for Student

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Hundreds of public minivan (angkot) drivers in Banjarbaru rallied to the local legislative council (DPRD) to reject a free student transportation plan, Tuesday.

Chairman of Banjarbaru's Land Transportation Organization (Organda) Sukidjo in Banjarbaru said hundreds of drivers came to meet legislators to express their aspirations.

"We reject mayor's plan to provide free transportation for students, because it cuts drivers revenue," he said in front of the DPRD speaker AR Iwansyah.

Although they demo, hundreds of drivers waited patiently while their representatives being dialogue with legislators. While dozens of angkot parked in the Murjani field, just opposite the council building.

Not only by the DPRD's speaker, representatives of the drivers received by Mayor Nadjmi Adhani and the deputy mayor who had just finished attending a plenary session in council.

According to Sukidjo, hundreds of official route drivers serving for 4-ways intersection Banjarbaru crossing Jalan Ahmad Yani until Liang Anggang roundabout fret over that policy.

"80 percent of their passengers are students, so free transport will turn off drivers' revenue," he said.

Responding to their aspirations, the mayor said the route that serves students do not traverse the route of public transportation, so the drivers do not need to fret.
