Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan 20/2 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Banjarmasin declares it rejection of liquor circulation in South Kalimantan capital of Banjarmasin.

MUI was one of invitee at the local legislative council (DPRD) meeting to revised Local Regulation (Perda) number 27 of 2011 on the supervision and control of liquor on Monday. 

Indonesia’s largest Muslim organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah were also invited.

All of the largest Islamic organizations expressed their rejection of the circulation of liquor in the provincial capital.

"In Islam it is clear that liquor is haraam (forbidden), so we declined the circulation of liquor in Banjarmasin," said Chairman of MUI Banjarmasin Murjani Sani.

Chairman of the special committee of the revision of local regulation on liquor Mathari responded that he is in line with the spirit conveyed by the Islamic organizations.

"(We) essentially the same in refusing circulation of alcoholic beverages in Banjarmasin," said the PKS politician.

The revision was meant to tighten the circulation of alcohol in Banjarmasin. However, he said, the clause in the regulation should be made carefully in order not to be rejected by the central government. 

"We are afraid that the regulation was disallowed, and the dangers of alcohol become uncontrollable circulation caused the local does not have the authority, just like last year the regulation almost rejected by the center," he warned.

According to him, pressing liquor circulation, for example by tightening license and supervision. Eg distance selling arrangements, not near a place of worship, and education, as well as the duration of the sale.
