Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government owned taps water company PDAM Bandarmasih planned to use a 50 years old giant water tower at Jalan Jafri Zamzam, Central Banjarmasin.

"The tower that stood since 1967 has never been functioned since its establishment, whereas it can accommodate about 1,000 cubic meters of water," said Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Muslih, Sunday.

"It needs a strong engine power to flow water into the tower which is about 40 meters in height," he said.

PDAM Bandarmasih, he explained, already have a machine that is able to distribute water to the giant reservoirs, but the pipeline transmission is a constraint.

"The plan is this year that pipeline network to the tower will be addressed first, because the old pipes can not stand," he said.

PDAM will fix the transmission pipeline that originates from the Water Treatment Plant (IPA) 1 in Jalan A Yani Km 3, which connects to the main pipeline in the Sabilal Muhtadin region till Jafri Zamzam.

According to him, after the piping is fixed, then the plan to functioning the giant water tower which was designed by a French will begin to do.

"If it works, this water storages can help smooth distribution of water evenly," he said.

According to Muslih, testing the functioning of the giant water reservoirs was done in 2010, but due to the transmission pipe can not stand, a failure occured.

"Well, this time we will really count, so not to fail again," he said.
