Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Regent Banjar Khalilurahman urge people, particularly those living along the banks of Martapura River, to clean it from various types of waste.


"People should pay attention to the river and clean it from all kinds of garbage that floats," he urged while leading the clean-up action on the Martapura River, Thursday.

Cleaning action, which was centered in the Green Open Space of Pekauman Dalam village, Eastern Martapura, was filled with cleanup garbage along the river and tree planting.

According to the regent, the cleanliness of the river must be considered as a part of life beside mainland so that the preservation of rivers and the mainland are always maintained.

"Many live along the riverbanks and the river is the artery of life through the transport so that continuity must be maintained," he said.

He said all parties have a responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the river, especially Martapura River, that became the lifeblood of Banjar District society.

Head of Environment Agency Boyke Wahyu Triestiyanto said the action was attended by hundreds of participants ranging from Regional Leadership Communication Forum members, civilian state apparatus, students, garbage-care community, trash bank and the public.

The action continued on Friday (17/2) with a fun walk by collection garbage. It was centered on Jalan Ahmad Yani Km 40 Martapura to Cahaya Bumi Selamat (CBS) shopping center.

Furthermore, on Saturday (18/2) held a variety of rubbish themed competitions, such as 3R race, environment speech, design of billboards, basket decorating, garbage bank competition between schools and boarding schools.
