The Directorate General of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology teamed up with the French Embassy to conduct training on French culinary skills and techniques for Indonesian vocational education.
This event involves 48 participants from the Center for the Development of Quality Assurance for Vocational Education in Business and Tourism (BBPPMPV Bispar), vocational high school teachers, instructors of Course and Training Institutions (LKP), lecturers of Vocational Colleges (PTV), and professional chefs.
"This training will teach prospective professional chefs to respond to current needs of the national and global culinary world," Arie Wibowo Khurniawan, the head of BBPPMPV Bispar, stated at the opening of the event in Depok, West Java, Monday.
For seven weeks, participants will learn about French culinary techniques and traditions, covering materials such as an introduction to French cuisine, cooking techniques, French pastry, culinary teaching, kitchen management, and hygiene standards under the guidance of professional chefs from the Institut Disciples Escoffier.
He is optimistic that the participants would be able to share their knowledge with students in their respective schools and institutions.
On the same occasion, Secretary of the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Saryadi, stated that cooperation between the two nations is expected to encourage better educational outcomes.
"We hope this cooperation would strengthen the relationship between countries and the network of vocational teachers in the culinary field," Saryadi remarked.
Meanwhile, French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, Fabien Penone, stated that this activity is part of the French Gastronomy Week on October 1-13, 2024.
He revealed that the training participants will receive French Cooking for Vocational Culinary and Professional Competence certificates from the French Government.
"We hope participants would share their knowledge with their respective institutions, which can be useful for Indonesian students interested in the culinary industry or for those willing to start their own culinary business," the ambassador noted.
