Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) deployed  the Faculty of Medicine students from Community Health Studies Program to the public to give counseling about the importance of saving the river for life.
     

One of the students, Rahmada Devi, revealed they were deployed into Limamar Village, Astambul Sub-district in Banjar Regency, Friday (3/2), to educate the public to take care of the river and the environment better.

The reason is some people like to throw garbage into the river. The habit became one of the causes of flooding in the district.

In fact the river is still one of prime things in their life, while the amount of waste dumped in the river resulted various diseases easily developed.

"The point is to keep the river remains sustainable and clean prevention should be undertaken from upstream. One of which is to increase villagers awareness not to throw garbage into the river," she said.

The councelling activities conducted with the Head of Astambul Community Health Center Dr. Marta was welcomed enthusiastically by officials and villagers.

Village officials then agreed to prove separate organic and non-organic waste bins in every neighborhood unit (RT). The trash will be transported regularly by the janitor to the nearest waste disposal.
     
"Usually after cooking, we throw away kitchen garbage at the back of the house. But now some bins are provided, we will dispose of the garbage to the provided bins," said Rumila, one of the residents.
