PT PLN (Persero) Nusantara Power, the Palangkaraya Generation Control Implementation Unit, has officially reorganized and changed its name to PLN South and Central Kalimantan Generation Unit (PLN UP Kalselteng) starting June 1, 2024.
“The transformation is not only changing the name, but a bigger responsible as well. From previously only managing Bangkanai Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG), now PLN South and Central Kalimantan UP also manages three other power plants, the Barabai diesel power plant (PLTD), Panangkalaan PLTD, and Mamburai PLTD,” said the PLN UP Manager Ali Anwar here on Wednesday.
PLN South and Central Kalimantan UP has an office on a strategic area on Jalan Ahmad Yani Kilometer 4.5, Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan.
“It certainly is expected to have a significant impact on power plant management and partnership in South and Central Kalimantan,” he said.
A glance profile of the generators, Bangkanai PLTMG in Barito Utara District, Central Kalimantan, is one of the largest peaker power plants in Kalimantan electricity interconnection system, it has an installed power of 155 Mega watts (MW) and a net capacity of 137.6 MW.
This plant, said Ali, has a CNG Plant facilities which enables extraordinary power flexibility, allowing start-up to maximum load in just 5 minutes per enginer (faster than other large plant such as PLTU).
Bangkanai power plant is also able to function as black start (the process of returning generator to operation) making it an important contribution to maintain reliability and stability of electricity supply in the surrounding area of Bangkanai.

Panangkalaan PLTD is in North Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan, with an installed capacity of 8.5 MW and a net capacity of 6.7 MW.
It also supporting the Kalimantan electricity interconnection system, especially during peak loads or when additional load is needed under certain condition.
Then, Barabai PLTD in Central Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan, with 6 MW installed capacity and 4.8 MW net capacity.
Its the same with Panangkalaan PLTD, which is also needed to support Kalimantan electricity interconnection system.
Next is Mamburai PLTD in Maburai Village, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, with 2 MW installed capacity and 1.8 MW net capacity.
Just like Bangkanai PLTMG, all of these power plants have the advantage of being a black start in the Kalimantan electricity interconnection system.
Before transformation and expansion, the Palangkaraya Generation Control Implementation Unit had won a number of prestigious achievements, including best performance of non-PLTU outside Java-Bali in the first semester of 2023 at PLN Nusantara Power, and Zero Accident award from Governor of Central Kalimantan for two years in a row (2022-2023).
The achievements reflects the organization's commitment to safety and optimum operational performance. With the slogan "Synergy for one energy," South and Central UP is determined to continue to make the best contribution in providing the reliable and safe electricity energy to people in Kalimantan.
