President-elect Prabowo Subianto, after being declared winner of this year's presidential election, extended his gratitude to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for making the 2024 General Elections a success.
"I would like to thank Mr. President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, for his leadership that resulted in elections that run well, orderly, and safely," he said at the Office of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He also expressed gratitude to his competitors in the election: candidate pairs Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
Prabowo, who is currently serving as the Indonesian defense minister, then lauded all election organizers and security apparatus.
"I thank all involved in the holding of the elections, including the KPU, General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and General Elections Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP). I also thank you: soldiers, police officers, and all law enforcers," he stated.
He went on to laud all electoral organizers stationed across Indonesia and abroad.
"The world has recognized us as a nation that has succeeded in organizing the largest simultaneous elections ever recorded in the world's history," he affirmed.
Earlier, KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari stressed that the declaration of Prabowo and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the elected candidate pair in the recent presidential election conforms with KPU's Decree No. 504 of 2024.
"Deciding and determining presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 2 Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the elected presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024–2029 period, according to the 2024 General Election," he said while reading out the decree.
He noted that the elected pair secured a total of 96,214,691 votes, or 58.59 percent of the total national valid votes, and obtained at least 20 percent of the votes in each of the 38 Indonesian provinces.
The decree came into effect following its stipulation on Wednesday (April 24).
