Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of Water Resources and Drainage Agency Ir Muryanta stated Banjarmasin not flood alert even it lies in the most downstream area of Martapura River.

"Our area is still relatively safe from inundation and flooding, despite the heavy rain lately as occurs in the upper course of Martapura River," he said while in the city council on Monday.

According to him, Banjarmasin benefited with many tributaries, so that it can break a large flow of water coming from upstream.

"If Martapura River overflow to cause flooding it had never happened in our area, despite heavy rain in upstream areas. That's astonishing of this area," said Muryanta.

The concern, he said, if heavy rains coincide with the occurrence of sea water high tides. It can cause puddle up high enough.

"But the puddles in our area have not been up too long, at least a few hours will be receding back," he said.

The water level of the river in Banjarmasin is still the standard of about two meters. That is still safe from the overflow.
