The Banjarmasin National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) striving to find a chinese crew member named Gong Yu Wu (57) who fell from the cargo ship Guo Yuan 12 in Pulau Sembilan waters, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan.

Chief of Banjarmasin Basarnas Al Amrad confirmed of Sunday that the victim was reported to have fallen from the ship around the waters of Pulau Sembilan on Saturday (April 6, 2024).

“The ship's crew had searched for the victim throughout the ship cabin but did not find him,” said Al Amrad.

Based on the informasi he received, the Guo Yuan 12 sailed from Muara Berau, East Kalimantan, with destination Singapura on Friday (5/4). Then on Saturday at around 11.40 Wita (Central Indonesia Time Zone), the ship's crew realized that the victim was not on the ship.

A few moment later, the ship's captain reprted it to chinese MRCC (SAR Center-Beijing) and forwarded to Basarnas Command Center (BCD), until finally it was forwarded to Banjarmasin Basarnas Office to then search for the victim.

“We imediately dispatched a team from Kotabaru SAR Post to carry out a search,” he said.

Al Amrad expounded that currently the serach process for the victim is being carried out to the latest information at the point where the victim was declared missing from the ship, namely in the waters of Pulau Sembilan precisely at coordinate 4°33'48.00"S-115°44'24.00"E.

Characteristic of the victim are about 170 centimeters tall, wearing blue clothes and a red helmet.

“To this day we are still in the search process, of course we expect the team to search optimally so that the victim can be found quickly,” said Al Amrad.
