Chair of Kotabaru DPRD's Commission I Gewsima Mega Putra has discussed with Head of South Kalimantan Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) a plan to relocate Kotabaru Penitentiary.
"Regarding the proposed relocation plan for Kotabaru Penitentiary, we are ready to coordinate so as to become a common concern in both the legislative and executive," said Chair of Commission I in a press statement here on Saturday.
Putra said that their meeting was to discuss request of the South Kalimantan Office of the ministry and the Kotabaru Penitentiary to the Kotabaru District Government regarding the relocation which is considered very necessary.

The current location of the penitentiary is in the middle of residential area and is considered not strategic.
"We hope there will be a progress in the near future regarding the relocation proposal," he said.
Head of South Kalimantan Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Faisol Ali expounded that condition of the prison is currently occupied by more than 600 inmates.
"Even though the capacity is only for 287 people," said Faisol.
His side really appreciated that the Kotabaru DPRD has responded positively to this proposal and recognized the urgency of relocating Kotabaru Penitentiary.
The relocation is also considered as an important step in improving the condition of Kotabaru, especially as a buffer area of the National Capital City of Nusantara(IKN).
