Head of the Kotabaru Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office immediately went down to check drainage channels at several points in the city when it rained.

"We and our team ensure that drainage and water channels function properly," said PUPR Head Suprapti Tri Astuti in Kotabaru, Thursday.

She said the inspection was carried out in urban areas where there is inundation or waterlogging due to heavy rain.

"After we monitored them, the team immediately cleaned the drainage blocked by rubbish and other hard materials," she said.

In addition to drainage, PUPR also checked the condition of Baharu River, which relatively was safe with normal water level.

"We also check the river next to Sport Hall, also in safe condition and river flow is still smooth no large waste material blocking the flow from upstream to downstream," she said.

PUPR keeps working to reduce puddles of waterlog on urban roads by maximizing cleaning of blocked drainage and carrying out engineering so that water flow can function properly.

The government continues to strive to improve infrastructure, especially all drainage channels which cause waterlogging.

Astuti admitted that her sides has prepared a long-term handling of floods that hit urban areas when the rain comes.

"Hopefully what we have planned and tried to be able to answer the problem of flooding when rainy season comes," said Suprapti.
