Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Amid a growing scarcity of natural bee honey production, aresident of Lok Batu village, Tabalong, Syakhbani push to develop the cultivation of honey from kelulut (bee with no sting or meliponini) known for its rich benefits.


To AntaranewsKalsel, Syakhbani said nowadays not many people cultivate kelulut honey, so do not be surprised if the price is more expensive than bees honey.

"Honey production of kelulut depends on season and in Tabalong only a few has been able to develop it as one of the sources of income," said the teacher on duty at the Tabalong Office of Ministry of Religious.

Currently the price of kelulut honey produced by Syakhbani reached Rp600 thousand per liter and is sold in bottles of 100 ml at a price of Rp60 thousand per bottle.

His cultivation of kelulut began in late 2015 and today Syakhbani has had 75 kelulut nests scattered in Lok Batu village.

Including some nests in in housing complex Citra Asri Tanjung, Gunung Batu, Sub-district of Murung Pudak, which produces honey with a benifit to lower blood sugar levels.

Usually kelulut honey production enough in September to May, especially in the rainy season. Compared to honey bees, kelulut honey tastes more acidic.

Through his kelulut business Syakhbani has transferred his skills to a number of Adiwiyata schools in Tabalong, such as SD Cakup Permata Nusa, including the help of relatives or friends who need this honey for treatment.
