The Government of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, will optimize the potential of Setangga special economic zone (KEK) after it has been determined by the KEK National Council.

“Setangga special economic zone is estimated to absorb 27,000 workers, thus having an impact on the welfare of the people of Tanah Bumbu," said Tanah Bumbu Regent Zairullah Azhar in Batulicin, Wednesday.

He said KEK National Council had approved Setangga to become KEK along with two KEKs in other provinces, Tanjung Sauh and Nipa.

Zairullah supports and appreciates the establishment of Setangga KEK to enhance the economy in "Bumi Bersujud" (Tanah Bumbu's nickname).

Setangga KEK, he said, will cause various positive impacts for Tanah Bumbu government to realizing economic growth.

“The KEK will also have an impact on development of other sectors, such as tourism and MSMEs,” he pointed out.

Zairullah said that Setangga KEK met the requirements because it covers more than 50 percent of land and has main investors, PT Anugrah Barokah Cakrawala and PT Jhonlin Agro Raya Tbk.

KEK Setangga has a area of 668.3 hectares with a target of investment of IDR67.69 trillion and planned to absorb tenaga kerja hingga 78.999 orang until 2053.

Head of Spatial Planning and Construction Services of the Tanah Bumbu Public Works and Public Housing Office Edy Rusdi said that it was PT Dua Samudra Perkasa (DSP) proposed Setangga as a KEK to the National KEK Council under the Coordinating Ministry for Economy.

“The economic activities that have been running currently include investment in biodiesel, cooking oil factories, smelter, and others,” he said.

The local government supported Setangga KEK by revising the Rencana Tanah Bumbu Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) No. 5 of 2023 which regulates Setangga KEK area as industrial area (KPI).

Edy said that Setangga KEK is important for improving people welfare, thus the district government supports its physical development, such as road facilities to the KEK and Batulicin Industrial Area, which is funded by the local budget (APBD) and Special Allocation Fund (DAK).
