Adaro in collaboration with Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) or IPB University, West Java, educated Nurul Muhibbin Halong Islamic Boarding School's santri (students) to apply biosecurity in poultry farming.
"We have provided biosecurity technology training in poultry to the school's (pesantren's) working group," said Rayhan, one of IPB students who provided assistance, in Tabalong, Friday.
He expected that the school's poultry working group, which consisted of vocational santri and service alumni, or commonly called cage children, could understand efforts to prevent disease through training.
The training in the laying hen cage was to introduce the prevention of disease from entering the cage area. Participants gain insights into 3 zones biosecurity.
“In additon to prevent disease from entering, biosecurity is important to maintain chicken productivity so that it produces products that are ASUH (stands for safe, healthy, intact, halal)” said Rayhan.
The 3-zones biosecurity includes red, yellow, and green zones. Red zone is a zone that has a high potential for exposure to disease, so employees need to bath, change feed, dip their feet into disinfectant and use special footwear before moving on yellow zone.
Items such as egg racks must also dip in disinfectant before entering yellow zone.
Yellow zoneis a transition zone for sorting eggs from cage. Then, the green zone, which is a production area.
Employees who have passed the red and yellow zone are allowed to enter this zone and their footwear must change to green zone special footwear.
Rayhan said that biosecurity is difficult to apply if there is no commitment and discipline between owners and workers.
"We hope that after this training the coordinator and the working group members, especialy cage children, can remind each other in implementing biosecurity as disease prevention," Rayhan added.
In addition, the working group continues to regularly clean the cages at least once a week.
