Batulicin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries through the Central Management of Coastal and Marine Resources (BPSPL) Pontianak guided coastal communities to protect the turtles on the island of Sambargelap, Sub-district of Pulau Sebuku, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan.
The BPSPL Pontianak Officer Andrean in Batulicin on Monday said the guidance to society of Kotabaru to provide insight into the rules of breeding turtles.
"In addition to fostering the cultivation of turtle, we also develop the existing attractions in Kotabaru district," he said.
Another objective of BPSPL is to obtain information and data distribution of turtle in conservation management of protected fish.
He said the obstacles faced by BPSPL team today is Kotabaru not yet have a special officer to collect data on the development of sea turtles on the island of Sambargelap or on another island.
"In the future, BPSPL teams will involve the community to serve as officers to collect data on the potential of sea turtles in Kotabaru district," he said.
Later, he added, people designated as potential assessors will be trained in monitoring sea turtles and turtle tourism development in Pengumbahan Turtle Coastal Park in West Java, so that data collection and monitoring the development of the turtle will be more focused.
The team also took off around 500 calves or tokik turtles and 1,000 tokik green turtles on the Sambargelap island.
He explained that this activity is in collaboration between government and private sector of the PT Jhonlin Marine Line.
"We say many thanks to the private sector who support turtle conservation in South Kalimantan," he said.
