Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranwsKalsel) - The Government of South Kalimantan is preparing the province to become child friendly as one effort to give attention and maximum protection to children.


The Governor Sahbirin Noor here on Thursday said some of the steps to make the province as child friendly are with efforts to fulfill their basic rights, such as education, health, safe and comfortable environment, as well as adequate play facilities.

To achieve this goal, he added, 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan were declared as worthy for children at the National Children's Day here on Wednesday (24/8)

The declaration means that all policies and implementation of future development should prioritize the interests of children, good for their health, education and to their environment.

The move is also expected to raise awareness of all parties to always pay attention to the interests of the child, as well as treating children with great affection.

"We hope, in the future children here can get their rights, and are always protected from violence and discrimination in any form," he said.

Growth Deputy Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Lenny Rosaline said it continues to strive to minimize violence against children, one of which with aggravate the punishment for the perpetrators.

In fact, she said, it had formed a special task force handling the problem of children in order to help victims of violence against children.

"This task force has five functions, one of which to identify conditions and services, which takes children who have problems," he said.

Head of Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (BPPA) South Kalimantan Heriyati said the province has quite high numbers of child sexual abuse.

According to BPPA South Kalimantan records, she said, in a one-semester course, violence involving the child has reached 120 cases.
