The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, is empowering Gen-Z or millennials, born between 1997-2012, as agents for reducing stunting through Genbest campaign.


The Banjarmasin Office Communication, Informatics, and Statistics disseminated the campaign to millennials in Banjarmasin in Fugo Hotel, Friday.

The campaign was initiated by Directorate General for Public Information and Communication of the Communication and Informatics Ministry to build a clean and healthy Indonesian generation which is free from stunting.
 
Genbest encourages citizens, especially young generation. to apply a clean and healthy living in their daily lives.
 
"Gen-Z were appointed as agent of change because they are the key in combating the problem of stunting," said the City Administration's Assistant 1 for Government and Welfare Machli Riyadi here, Friday.

Machli Riyadi, who represented Banjarmasin Mayor, said that the youth is identified as the group that will become the largest population in Indonesia in the 2030 to 2040 period, known as the demographic bonus. 
 
"Thus, they have an obligation to prepare a healthy anf strong generation," he said.
 
He explained that this campaign is in line with the Mayor's vision and mission number one that is to improve the quality of human resources who are healthy, superior, and have the global competitiveness.
 
He hopes that Gen-Z as targets will become agents of change who are able to educate the family, community, and peer group about the importance of reducing stunting.
 
Based on Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), stunting cases in Banjarmasin fell to 22.4 percent from previously 27.8 percent.
