The District Administration of Barito Kuala (Batola), South Kalimantan, has received the 2023 Child-Friendly District (KLA) award in Madya (intermediate) category from the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry (PPPA).

Batola has made a progress compared to previous years. For the consecutive two years, the district government won the award in Pratama category.

“The Child-Friendly District/City (KLA) award is a form of appreciation for all commitment and seriouness of governors, district heads, mayors and their ranks to creating safe and friendly zones for children," said PPPA Minister Bintang Puspayoga in a press statement received here, Saturday.

According to her, the constitutional mandate obliges the state to fulfill all children;s rights, protect children and respect children's views.

"As stated in the Convention of the Rights of child which was ratified through other laws and regulations,” she pointed out.

Previously, the Batola admnistration had carried out KLA evaluation through an independent mechanism from February to March 2023.

Administrative verification to the verification stage through hybrid verification and field verification in June 2023. 

Evaluation of KLA by the PPPA Ministry was carried out by involving relevant ministries, child experts, universities, and listening to children's voices or children's aspiration for fulfilling children's rights and special protection in their area. 

At the awarding ceremony in Semarang, Saturday night(July 22, 2023), Minister Puspayoga presented the 2023 award to a total of 360 districts/cities in four different categories. 

A total of 19 received the main (Paripurna) category awards, 76 in Nidya category, 130 in Madya category, and 135 received the Pratama category awards.

She also awarded the Child-Friendly Award to as many as 14 provinces, including South Kalimantan, for their tremendous efforts in encouraging districts and cities to become child-friendly regions.
