Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tabalong Government continues Cow-Oil Palm Integration Program as one of local government efforts in improving cattle population.


Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Agency Fahrial Fuaddy in Tanjung on Wednesday said Cow-Oil Integration held in Hayup Village and Sidorejo Village  because both have quite extensive oil palm plantations.

"The oil palm in the Sub-district of Muara Uya and Haruai spacious enough for the integration program we carry out in this region," said Fahrial.

Currently the oil palm plantations in `Earth of Saraba Kawa` (a nickname for Tabalong) reached 259 hectares, so the potential fodder from the rest of oil palm processing and grass field quite large.

He explained the farmer community involvement is needed in cow-oil palm integration, especially those living around the oil palm plantation with intensive and semi-intensive pattern of cattle management system.

The program in the long term is expected to generate positive impacts for farmers, farmer groups or cattlemen and local governments. Among them the use of oil palm waste can be optimized, farmers can participate in the business of beef and veal seeds, thus increasing employment.

One group of farmers from the village of Hayup, Sub-district Haruai, Sunkis Farmers Group, has won awards in managing the integration of cow and oil palm, namely first champion in cattlebreeding farmers groups race in South Kalimantan level in 2009 and 3rd place in national level in the same year.

Besides Tabalong, Cow-Oil Palm Integration Program also implemented in Tanah Laut, Tanah Bambu and Kotabaru.
