Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A total of 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes of sugar will be distributed cheaply priced below Rp12 thousand per kilogram in a number of markets here, a major distributor of sugar said.


"The central government will conduct market operations to reduce the price of sugar in the Banjarmasin to sell it very cheap below Rp12 thousand per kilogram," said H Aftahuddin, Friday.

According to him, this government program known after he was attending a meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in an effort to curb the high price of sugar in the market of South Kalimantan.

In Banjarmasin cheap sugar will be circulated amongs arein Antasari Market, Pandu Market, and Teluk Dalam Market, he said.

"This Ramadan the price of sugar in the market has ranged Rp17 thousand per kilogram, and maybe will rise again, so the market operation is very helpful," said Aftahuddin.

According to him, the need for sugar in the province during Ramadan has increased about 2.5 percent of the normal figure reaches 10 thousand tons per month.

"While the existing sugar in our area are all brought from Java, so it will be difficult to control," he explained.

As a sugar entrepreneur, Aftahuddin claimed to support the market operations of the government, and not feel disadvantaged.

"For eleven months we can control the price of sugar in the market, so this month if the government wanted to slam the price for the welfare of society, we need to support," he said.
