Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Chairman of the South and Central Kalimantan branch of the Indonesian Association of Rubber Companies (Gapkindo) Andreas Winata said the government seek to improve the absorption of domestic rubber production for infrastructure development need.
According to Andreas in Banjarmasin on Sunday, the expected demand would come such as using rubber to mix the manufacture of railroad construction, the manufacture of asphalt, roads, bridges, and more.
The domestic inncrease of obsorbance, he hopes, will be able to boost the price of farmers' rubber.
"In addition to agreement to cut rubber exports to some countries for six months, other policy is to increase the market (obsorption) of rubber in the country," he said.
He also hoped local entrepreneurs open the downstream industry in the form of semi-finished goods, such as crumb rubber industry, in order to produce better processed rubber.
Currently, he said, the industry is very suitable to be developed here is only half-finished, while for the finished industrial goods will be difficult to compete with other regions.
According to him, to be able to develop the finished goods in South and Central Kalimantan, entrepreneurs and investors to pay too much. For example, the tire industry, other raw materials that must be met relatively large, ranging from synthetic rubber, sulvur, to carbon black, which are brought from Java.
Whereas, the largest tire market is in Java. Once finished, the investor should also deliver goods back to Java at a cost that is relatively large.
"In South Kalimantan only rubber available, so it is better if in this area to be developed downstream industry for semi-finished goods," he said.
In addition, he said, are also important quality improvement farmers rubber constantly so as to improve the market price.
Previously, the local government, especially the largest rubber-producing areas in South Kalimantan, such as Tabalong, continue toward improving the welfare of local rubber farmers, including by launching a movement to improve rubber (Gemas Mekar).
