Martapura, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - Regent Banjar H Khalilurahman together with Dandim (District Military Commander) 1006/Martapura Andi Martopo, Head of South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Lukito Andi Widyarto released 188 birds to the wild.
Representatives of the Banjar Police, South Kalimantan Environment Agency (BLHD), Head of BLHD Banjar Farid Soufyan, as well as wildlife lovers and environmentalists also took part in the release of these birds.
Regent Banjar released four species of birds, namely Kutilang, Manyar Kembang, Manyar Ordinary and Pleci Glasses birds.
The birds were obtained by BKSDA from catches and delivery of community and bred in captivity that have met the requirements to be released. Of the 188 birds were 47 Kutilangs, 64 Manyar Kembangs, 50 Manyar Ordinary birds and 27 Pleci Glasses.
"All the birds were released in good health, well-maintained, and have been through the process and requirements for proper release through BKSDA South Kalimantan, including the availability of food, a wild populations, competitors and security from human disturbance," said Regent Banjar.
Regent also appealed to people to always maintain biodiversity and environmental sustainability, notably supervision of the elements are not responsible for the deliberate capture or chase wildlife and protected species to be maintained or merchantability.
"I hope the community can protect the environment and natural reserve biodiversity and all that is in it. For people who raise animals please take care as best as possible," he said.
If unable to care properly, should be handed over to a conservation agency and then release to wild in accordance with the procedure.
"Especially for animals protected by Republic Act, there is no reason to keep it up to hunt down and reselling, but for breeding must first have permission from BKSDA," H Khalilurahman warned.
BKSDA head Lukito Andi Widyarto said this activity was in accordance with the rescue of wildlife through the National Movement to Save Wild Plant and Animal Rescue launched by President Joko Widodo.
"In the same day and the same hour, the President Joko Widodo also carry out similar activities on the island of Karya, Seribu Isles," he said.
