Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru Agriculture Agency in 2016 targeting an area of 5,000 hectares to grow corn to meet the needs of maize in the area.


Head of Agriculture Agency Khairuddin here said on Thursday that to this day 4,138 hectares have been planted from the 5,000 hectares target.

"We hope the rest will be fulfilled in a few months," said Khairuddin.

He said corn plants are scattered in the sub-district of West Pulaulaut in an area of 400 ha, South Pulaulaut 422 ha, then 882 ha in Pulaulaut Kepulauan, East Pulaulaut 8 ha, North Pulaulaut 4 ha, Central Pulaulaut 309 ha, and South Kelumpang 14 ha.

Furthermore, Kelumpang Hilir 131 ha, Kelumpang Hulu 233 ha, Hampang 539 ha, Sungai Durian 196 ha, Central Kelumpang 60 ha, and West Kelumpang 206 ha.

North Kelumpang 59 ha, South Pamukan 30 ha, Sampanahan 79 ha, North Pamukan 69 ha, West Pamukan 435 ha, and Tanjung Selayar 40 ha.

Earlier, Khairuddin said about 316 hectares of corn crops in four districts (Kelumpang Hilir, North Pamukan, Pamukan West, and Kelumpang Hulu) of crop failed due to drought.

"Maize crop failure because of not getting enough water, so that the growth is interrupted and can not bear fruit," he said.
