Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Director of Sambang Lihum Psychiatric Hospital dr. Dharma Putra was frustrated by hundreds of monkeys onslaught. The animals were suspected of stress and attacked the hospital since last few months.

Dharma, after attending a South Kalimantan DPRD plenary meeting here on Wednesday, revealed the invasion of hundreds of monkeys to Sambang Lihum Hospital in Northern Ring Road, Gambut, Banjar district, has been very troublesome.

Various attempts to repel long tails animals until now has not produced results. Even the monkeys looked comfortable living and breeding in the ceiling of the hospital.

"We have been cooperating with Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) to chase away monkeys by trapping and confining, but it did not work," he said.

The monkeys still roam in the hospital and began to disturb the services, as well as damaging the existing facilities, lke roof, internet, electricity and others.

In fact, he said, hospital was often humiliated by monkeys, because the rubbish scattered when there are guests come to the hospital.

"Not infrequently garbage ready to be discarded was again ransacked by the monkeys and make the hospital look dirty," he said.

Although hordes of monkeys not to steal patients' food, but theirexistence makes personnel and patients are not quiet and often fear, especially at night or when sleep.

"If the food the monkeys are just looking for leftovers, but their existence have been very unsettling," he said.

In the near future, he said, hospital with BKSDA will try to do the eviction by moving the head of the monkey groups, with sedation.

It is estimated that there are three to four monkey group heads, and estimated charge of each group of 40 monkeys.

"To move them, the group heads will be anesthetized first by way of chopsticks, as if drugged shoot feared they would soon die," he said.

Dharma hopes for a long-term program, the government will fix the monkeys dwelling by restoring the function of the protected forest behind the hospital, because previously forested land are often experiencing a fire.

When the forest where they stayed well back, then certainly the monkeys will return to their habitat, and will not bother humans.
