Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head JAPFA Foundation Tanah Laut Andi Prasetyo said the South Kalimantan corn farmers has been supplying about 40 percent the needs of maize for the Pelaihari fodder company.


While the remaining 60 percent, said Andi in Pelaihari on Sunday, met by corn farmers from other provinces outside Kalimantan.

Under these conditions, he said, is an opportunity for the province's farmers to develop agriculture of corn, as an effort to meet the raw material needs of the largest animal feed company in the South Kalimantan.

"The opportunity to develop agriculture and animal husbandry are still very large in South Kalimantan, one of which is corn," he said.

The company, he said, is ready to accept the results of the production of maize from farmers in large numbers, provided in accordance with standards established by the company, among others, is not too big and not too dry.

In addition, he said, farmers should also be able to ensure continuity of availability of raw materials, under any circumstances, so that when the company needs the production is completely ready.

Previously, Section Head of Food Crops of the Tanah Laut Agriculture and Food Crop Agency Sailillah said the production of maize per hectare in the region now exceeds the average national production.

"The production of the national average of five tons of corn per hectare, while corn production in Tanah Laut has reached six tons per hectare in the form of shelled," he said.

According to him, in 2015 the target of planting area of corn was 14,250 hectares. Until June 2015 planting area has reached 7,000 hectares or more, and is expected by the end of year the planting area over the target, covering an area of 14,259 hectares.

Sailillah revealed, it is difficult to increase the area of corn plant ​​land, having lost with the growth rate of land conversion.

Of the 10 sub-districts in Tanah Laut, he said, four sub-districts become the center of corn plants development, namely Pelaihari, Jorong, Panyipatan, and Batu Ampar.

Regent Bambang Alamsyah said, for the expansion of corn planting land can take advantage of abandoned land.

"To increase the production of corn, Tanah Laut regency has given aid and agricultural machinery as well as the seeds," he said.
