President Joko Widodo has asked the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority to further improve multi-sector planning through coordination among ministries to achieve the IKN’s development target.

IKN Authority head Bambang Susantono delivered the information online after meeting with the President at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Friday, to discuss the capital city’s development.

All government ministries and institutions within the transition team have thus far worked, consolidated, and coordinated to achieve the 2024 development targets, he said.

The IKN’s development is currently focused on a number of field constructions, which will start in the second half of this year.

Specifically, it is focused on the progress of soil ripening, provision of logistical access, and construction of infrastructure roads.

"We expect that in 2023 we will start to develop on the scale that we had targeted," Susantono said.

There is a unique aspect of the development of IKN: the involvement of a sizable number of workers in the field, he highlighted.

In 2023, the development of IKN will involve around 150 thousand to 200 thousand workers on the field, he estimated.

"Why do we need that many? Because in execution, we have a short amount of time and we have to achieve several targets," he explained.

"Of course, the number of workers and later, the number of materials, will be quite many," he added.

The development of the IKN will continue to be planned based on environmental considerations as well as social interaction.

Susantono emphasized that the IKN’s development envisages a number of local resident involvement patterns.

Principally, the conversion will be done based on the law so that issues related to the environment and sustainability of the forests in the region can be successfully handled, he informed.

Nusantara will be a green, smart, inclusive, as well as sustainable city, he highlighted.
