The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the West Papua Provincial Government build a micro hydro power plant in Upper Village, Anggi Sub-District, Mount Arfak District, West Papua Province.

The government builds the power plant as part of the renewable energy transition program toward eco-friendly and sustainable energy sources.

"Slowly, we start to phase out diesel that utilizes fuel oil which is not renewable," the Ministry's Director of Planning and Development of New Renewable Energy Infrastructure and Energy ConservationHendra Iswahyudi  noted in a statement on Saturday.

The government estimates that the potential for hydro power plant is very large in West Papua, reaching more than three thousand megawatt.
