Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of Health Care Department of South Kalimantan Health Agency Ali Nur Purnama said cases of malnutrition in this province is still high at 8.2 percent from 1 percent it should be less than.


According to Nur Ali, the 8.2 percent of malnutrition is quite high in the category, while undernutrition is recorded at 19.2 percent.

"Undernutrition should not be more than 18 per cent, so we are still have an excess of about one per cent of the national reduction target," he said here on Friday.

According to him, many of the factors that led to high malnutrition and undernutrition in South Kalimantan, one of which is poverty.

"It is possible that the current economic slowdown also adds to cases of malnutrition," he said.

According to him, during 2015 the Health Agency handled at least 70 cases of malnutrition with majority were children under five. In the previous year the number of malnutrition cases handled 80 cases.

Number of patients with malnutrition, he said, had actually experiencing a decline when compared with the data base of health research in 2010 with a percentage of 22.8 percent.

"The decline in the detection rate can not be used as a benchmark cases of malnutrition or undernourishment have been reduced. It could be the numbers remain much, but only a little bit found," he said.
