Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin Agriculture and Fisheries Agency (Distankan) will begin building lobster breeding ponds.


"The budget this year approximately Rp800 million for the manufacture of lobster breeding ponds," said the head of Agriculture and Fisheries Agency (Distankan) Doyo Pudjadi here on Friday.

The building of several ponds in the screen house at Distankan office in Banua Anyar, East Banjarmasin, is to meet the target of one million lobster to be produced in 2017.

"We do it in stages to achieve our target of a million lobsters. First we are building ponds, then breeding by farmers under the coordination of Distankan," he explained.

He said, a definite step is needed to realize Banjarmasin become one of the largest lobster producing area in the province, namely by breeding from marriage, nursery, until enlargement.

"On a small scale we've done it, even in the last year we've been able to harvest the results, and the next we develop to a greater to achieve the target," he said.

Doyo confirmed, his agency is very serious to reach the target of one million lobster that the region's economy could be helped to be better.

"Lobster cultivation is very profitable. People can later be motivated to participate in developing it, so it is expected to reduce unemployment in this region," he said.

According to him, the economy in this area rely on natural resources that could eventually run out, so there must be a breakthrough of the government to create job opportunities that could prevent the economic crisis.
