Balangan, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Government of Balangan, South Kalimantan, focus on developing irrigation channels to the success of sustainable self-sufficiency program in the form of rice, corn and soybeans (Pajale).


Acting Head of the Balangan Public Works Agency Irwan in Paringin said on Monday it is ready to encourage food self-sufficiency program by fulfilling the water needs through the provision of good and well maintained irrigation networks.

"In fiscal year 2015 alone, the Public Works through the Irrigation Sector had budgeted for a total ceiling of physical Rp69,4 billion," he said.

The fund, he added, to build the infrastructure of irrigation network, rehabilitate damaged irrigation networks, as well as normalization of rivers that routinely performed.

Each year, Balangan always set aside funds for the rehabilitation of the irrigation network in the entire region of Balangan.

Rehabilitation or construction of the irrigation network, he added, aimed that agricultural production could be optimized so that the target three harvests a year can be achieved.

"Construction of irrigation networks will be carried out evenly in several sub-districts," he said.

Head of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and Livestock (PTPHPP) Tuhalus said to support national food self-sufficiency through Pajale program, Balangan gets rice planting targets of 40,000 hectares, 1,000 hectares of corn and 1,000 hectares of soybeans.

While the level of productivity per hectare, he added, specifically rice 42 quintals, 45 quintals of corn and soybeans 12 quintals.

"Thank God, all the targets set have realized a 100 percent or more," he said.

Such as, rice planting targets have been realized 40,009 hectares with a productivity of 45.65 quintals per hectare. Realization of planting corn in November 1,380 hectares and soybean planting 1,000 hectares till November.
