The University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has recorded a highly graduate employability of over 60 percent.
"Alhamdulilah the absorption rate of ULM alumni is quite high, no later than six months after graduating they are already working. The figure is above 60 percent," said Rector of ULM Prof. Sutarto Hadi in Banjarmasin, Tuesday.
Some work according to their field of expertise, said Sutarto, but there are also alumni who work outside their competence, including entrepreneurship and creating new job opportunities.
"We also encourage undergraduate graduates to continue their studies to a higher level and this has been done quite a lot, as evvidenced by the increasing number of postgraduate students every year," said the chancellor.
Sutarto was grateful that the quality of ULM graduates is increasingly being recognized by being widely accepted in various employment sectors, both in government and private companies. Even the absoption rate has exceeded the national target of around 35 percent.
The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim once revealed that in 2021 the compisition o workforce resulting from higher education was only 10.,81 percent. It is relatively low, thus it is a challange for higher education to prepare graduates needed by the world of job, as well as to create a new jobs.
Responding to this challange, Sutarto said that every year ULM provides a special training for alumni to get jobs faster.
This year 600 alumni participated in training, such as making application letters to skills in facing interview tests.
"We also regularly hold job fairs to bridge alumni with various fields of work that require college graduates," he said.
