Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The South Kalimantan  Fisheries and Marine Agency has identified 12 small islands located in the district of Kotabaru and explore the potential of these islands.


Head of Coastal, Marine and Small Island of Fisheries and Marine Agency Winarno in Banjarbaru said Wednesday, the dozen small islands have tremendous potential.

"The potential of these islands is exceptional, both in the depths of the sea such as coral reefs, various kinds of fish,
as well as the natural beauty around," he said.

The 12 islands identified and that have great potential are Serudung, Kunyit, Maradapan, Marabatuan, Kalambau, Mata Sirih, and Sambar Gelap Island.

Especially for Sambar Gelap Island, which lies among several islands, has tremendous potential, such as its unspoiled underwater natural beauty.

"The natural beauty of the underwater very nice and visitors can dive in the sea floor that is not too deep to enjoy the
marine life as well as the fish," he said.

Then, five other islands that have been mapped for their potential are Kerayaan Island, Kerasian, Kerumputan, Tepian Mataja and Ondong island located in the district of Kotabaru.

"In addition to the 12 islands, there is also a group of islands surrounding. The number is about tens, but not yet
calculated," he said.

Kotabaru district has 144 small islands from 172 small islands scattered in various districts in the province.
