Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Special Criminal Police Directorate of South Kalimantan Regional Police named four people as suspects in three cases of burning land.
"Currently the four suspects are detained for the purpose of investigation," said Director of the Special Criminal Police Commissioner Nasri in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.
He said that, based on the results of the examination and the testimony of witnesses, four men were found guilty of burning land.
According to Nasri, the number of suspected cases of burning land may still increase, because police also handle four other cases currently under investigation by members in the field.
"Of four cases we investigated, two of them involving company. We are currently collecting data and information," he said.
Nasri said four of land burners perpetrators have been named as suspects will be charged under Article 187 and Article 188 of Code of Criminal punishable by 15 years in prison.
"It's the police chief orders, any offender convicted of land burning must be dealt with firmly and given heavy penalties," he said.
Today most of the South Kalimantan region shrouded in fog due to smoke from forest and land fires.
