The government of Central Hulu Sungai (HST)from time to time keeps on striving to prevent or at least minimize flood disasters and the risks.

HST Deputy Regent Drs H Mansyah Sabri via his WhatsApp from Barabai to Antara News South Kalimantan on Tuesday said that the district government will discuss the possibility of building a dam.

The dam with the name Pancar Hanau will be built in the Hantakan Sub-district or the upper of Benawa River which headwaters in the Meratus Mountains as flood controller for the district.

Earlier, the two-period Regent H Saiful Rasyid had normalized Barabai River for flood control by accelerating the descent of water, so that the inundation would not last long in the Apam City of Barabai (165 kilometers northeast of Banjarmasin), the capital of HST.

Now HST is normalizing the canal from Benawa River which passes through the sub-districts of Labuan Amas Selatan (LAS), Labuan Amas Utara (LAU) or Mantaas Lake, and Bangkau Lake in South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District, South Kalimantan.

Another thing that is quite vital, HST is trying to preserve the environment, among others by not doing coal mining.

HST is currently the only one of eleven districts in South Kalimantan that has a coal mining potential but does not mine it.
