The Kotabaru District Government keeps trying to reduce the number of violence against women and children.

Head of the Agency for Women Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (PPPA-Dalduk dan KB) Cipta Waspada said that Kotabaru is currently the third-highest contributor to cases of women and child abuse in South Kalimantan with 33 cases as of October 18, 2021.

"The number has increased from last year's 28 cases,” said Cipta, Wednesday.

One of the efforts to reduce the violence is through socialization by forming an integrated team at the village level, so that all cases in the village can be reached and handled.

According to Cipta, the violence against women and children has had a broad and negative impact, not only on victims but also on the process of child development and life.

The violence they faced is not only physical, but also psychological, sexual, and be displaced.

So far, in handling the cases of violence, the agency works together with Crisis Center and Puspaga (the Family Learning Center) to reach, and mediate the family and victims. When it came to the realm of law, they cooperate with the police.

The government is responsible for respecting, protecting, defending, and guaranteeing the human rights of every citizen and population, including women and children without discrimination.

It is obligatory to provide complaints service, referral assistance, and legal assistance on women's problems in Kotabaru with all their limitations.

“Hopefully with the steps we take, there will be no more cases of violence. Even if it happens, at least we can handle all cases,” said Dr. Cipta.
