Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin government owned water taps company PDAM Bandarmasih warns a water crisis here as Martapura river is now experiencing high salinity.

Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Ir Musleh said on Monday that the river experiencing salinity with salt content of 5,000 milligrams per liter making taps company can not take it as a raw water for the production of clean water.

Existing installations can only treat water taps with a maximum salt content of 250 milligrams per liter, Muslih said.

According to him, the intrusion of sea water into Martapura River, causing an engine unit to extract raw water taps in the area of Sungai Bilu had to be stopped temporarily.

"The water intake which we forced us to stop its operation usually supply raw water to 500 liters per second," he said.

Thus, said Muslih, current taps only rely on raw water intake at the Sungai Tabuk intake in the Banjar district. As a result, the production of clean water to over 150 households is disturbed.

He also appealed, with the events of this nature, people to prepare the tank-water to supply as the reserve if the water taps experience disruptions in supply.
