The residents of the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District in South Kalimantan are now beginning to apiculture stingless bee (locally known as kelulut) to produce honey.
One of them is Ustadz Afri, who has been beekeeping since 2018 with a production of nine liters of kelulut honey on average in the harvest.
"I already have 30 logs or beehives that produce seven to nine-liter honey per harvest," he said here, Saturday.
The man, whose full name is Noer Arief Afriandi, said that besides for his own consumption, kelulut honey is marketed through social media, friends, and relatives.
The price varies, for 80 ml size is at IDR50,000, 150 ml IDR75,000, while 250 ml IDR120,000, and 500 ml is sold for IDR215,000.
The kelulut honey harvest period every year is April-October, which is during the fruit season.
Ustadz Afri's honey is benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic. When people are more concerned about health, then consuming honey is an alternative to maintain the body's immune system.
Afri opens his house for anyone who wants to learn kelulut beekeeping.
“I previously also learn by coming to kelulut bee farm, in addition to learning through social media," Afri told.
There are three types of kelulut bee that he cultivates, namely itama, drescery, and levicep.
Ustadz Afri has also given training in Tambak Saripanji Village. He taught how to beekeeping that people can apply.
"Alhamdulillah people have been able to apply beekeeping themselves," he said.
