Some 14 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have started using the electronic trade application, Domestic Trade Director-General of the Trade Ministry Oke Nurwan stated.

"This figure is quite an achievement within the second year of implementing the Gernas BBI Campaign. The Ministry of Trade is optimistic of the target of digitalizing 30 million MSMEs being achieved," Nurwan told ANTARA here on Monday.

MSMEs are the most important pillar in Indonesia's economy, according to Nurwan. The number of MSMEs had reached 64.2 million, with a gross domestic product (GDP) contribution of 61.07 percent, or Rp8.573.89 trillion.

However, the utilization of e-commerce by MSMEs remains low, at 21 percent, he noted.

According to data by the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEa), up until August 2021, over 14 million MSMEs, or 22 percent of the total MSMEs across Indonesia, had utilized the electronic trade application.

As a part of Gernas BBI, the government, in cooperation with the Trade Ministry and Communication and Informatics Ministry, unveiled the 2021 Proud of Indonesian Products Day Program (BBI 2021) on May 5 2021, he stated.
