Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A total of 65 old enough bridges, which were constructed in ironwood, got improvements in maintenance program this year.


Head of Banjarmasin Highways Agency Gusti Riduan Sofyan said here on Thursday, about Rp5 billion local budget funds allocated for repair and maintenance of the ulin (ironwood) bridge.

According to him, bridges repairment to replace the most damage, as there is a broken wooden beam bridge, or deemed no longer feasible, etc.

"So unloading repair, replace, install, knowing all of these bridges average age above 20 years old," he said.

Riduan said, the city government's efforts to replace all ulin bridges  into concrete is still constrained by budget, because it requires huge amounts of fund.

So far, he said, of the 237 bridges that exist in this area about 60 percent have been replaced with concrete, targeted strength up to age 50 years.

In this year, said Riduan, the municipal government is only able to build or replace a wooden bridge types of crib or an average length of about 5 meters to the concrete construction numbering 30 pieces with funds from the 2015 budget.
