Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto has urged the Batam Development Board (BP Batam) to accelerate the realization of the investment plan and economic recovery in Batam, Riau Islands, especially after the appointment of BP officials serving until 2024.


"After the appointment ensured that the board of directors of BP Batam was complete, I am optimistic that the directors would exert every effort to restore the economic situation in Batam and realize investment plans for investors," Hartarto remarked after officiating the appointment of Enoh Suharto Pranoto as a member of the strategic policy board of BP Batam here on Tuesday.

The minister expects the BP Batam board of directors to support the transition to the Batam Free Trade Zone from the initial Special Economic Zone status while taking into account Government Regulation No. 41 of 2021 on Free Port and Free Trade Management.

Hartarto noted that the BP Batam strategic policy board's members were appointed to boost the national economy that has shown a positive trend in the form of a 7.07-percent increase in the second quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso is optimistic that Batam would contribute to the nation's economic recovery and implement Government Regulation No. 41 of 2021.

"We will boost economic activities and public mobility in Batam, and we are optimistic that the current economic target for this year would be reached," Moegiarso noted in his written statement.

Responding to the ministry's expectations, Chairperson of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi reassured that the board of directors of BP Batam were ready to execute and supervise economic and investment activities in Batam to boost economic development in the region.

"Appointment of Enoh Suharto Pranoto today will strengthen synergy within BP Batam. We are confident that our synergy would result in proper strategic policies for Batam, including policies to offer easy investment procedures in the region," Rudi affirmed.
