Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Microhydro power in the inland of Meratus, Muara Ore Village, Hampang Sub-district, Kotabaru, begins operation.


"The power generator using waterfall is one of the strategic measures by local governments to utilize the natural potential to produce enewable energy," said Regent Kotabaru Irhami Ridjani after its inauguration in Muara Ore said on Wednesday.

Micro-hydro power plant has become one of the solutions to overcome the limitations of electricity supply, especially in areas that have not reached by state electricity company PT PLN.

According to the regent, micro-hydro power plants can be used as a tourist attraction and technology means for the public to learn about micro-hydro plants.

Muara Ore microhydro utilizing Haulan River water flow, about 200 meters from the village of Muara Ore. And waterfalls with a height of about seven meters to drive the turbine can produce about 31 kw of electricity to be distributed to 76 homes.

This micro-hydro power plant construction cost about Rp2.2 billion. The fund consists of Rp1.5 billion from the state budget for construction and major distribution, and approximately Rp765 million from the budget of Kotabaru to build a network to people's homes.
