Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Environmentalist group Green Community Forum (Forum Komunitas Hijau) Banjarmasin proved its desire to greening the river in this city by planting Rambai Padi (soneratia sp).

Dozens of FKH members assisted by the Banjarmasin Water Resources and Drainage Agency (SDA) officers plunged into Kerokan River at the side of  Jalan Jafri Zamzam on Saturday to plant at least 200 seedlings of Rambai Padi to green the area.

"This plants have been proven to be able to adapt to the tides and avoid abrasion of the river, besides creating beauty," said Deputy Chairman of FKH Banjarmasin Mohamad Ary on the sidelines of planting the mangrove species.

According to Mohamad Ary, this plant seeds taken from its habitat in the Lauk River, the coastal region of the Barito River, Barito Kuala, then transported by boat to be planted by FKH.

The mass planting is the second time. Earlier Saturday a week ago, FKH made a similar planting in Pangeran River to beautify the arched bridge in the area of Kayu Tangi.

At this location, FKH also planted dozens of ivory palm seeds in an effort to provide protection and beauty of the dense traffic area.

This greening tree planting is a real form of FKH support to green city program launched by the Government of Banjarmasin City, which states as one of the 60 green city in the country.

In addition to planting Rambai Padi, FKH previously planted 300 trambesi trees, 500 nut trees, 2000 Lukut (pakis sarang burung) hundreds of orchids, as well as the croton plant.
