Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru district government plans to build two micro-hydro power plants in areas that have not received electricity from PT PLN.


Head of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Industry Agency Zainal Ariffin in Kotabaru on Friday said that if micro-hydro power plant test in the village of Muara Ore successful, then Kotabaru will propose two new micro-hydro plants.

"We will propose it in Banian, Sungai Durian. People in the area until now could not enjoy electricity from PT PLN," said Zainal.

He claimed the central government has offered to Kotabaru that if Muara Ore micro hydro actually benefit society, the central government is not stingy to assist Kotabaru in resolving the problems of electricity.

Zainal said that the Dayak people who live at the foot of Meratus, Muara Ore Village, Sub-district Hampang, start enjoying electricity using micro-hydro power plants, utilizing water flow of Haulan River, about 200 meters from the village.

The waterfall is used to drive turbines to generate about 31 Kwh of electricity. It has a height of about 7 meters. Electricity produced by the micro-hydro turbine was later distributed to 76 families.

Micro-hydro power plant construction cost about Rp2.2 billion, comprising Rp1.5 billion from the state budget for construction and major distribution, and approximately Rp765 million from the budget of Kotabaru to build a network to people's homes.
