The number of people with mental health disorders (ODGJ) in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District, South Kalimantan, is now over 400, said a legislator.

The spokesperson for the Special Committee for HST DPRD H Alamsyah suggested that a special treatment room for ODGJ be built at the H Damanhuri Barabai General Hospital. So far, ODGJ examination or observation has been carried out at the Kandangan Hospital in HSS or Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital in Banjar.

"If not handled properly, ODGJ will actually endanger local people," he said during a plenary season to submit a report on the results of discussion of the 2021-2026 RPJMD bylaw, Monday (July 27, 2021).

In the last few years, there have been several murder cases in the HST district with perpetrators were ODGJ.

"We get data that in HST right now the ODGJ has reached more than 400. This number can be said to be quite a lot," he said.

He hopes there will be a focus on the handling of ODGJ in the Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD), thus there will be a decrease in the number of ODGJ within five years.
