Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Duck breeder in North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Kalimantan, asks local government to build disease surveillance post in the border area.
"Because until now farmers are still anxious and worried about the spread of avian diseases," said a duck farmer in the village of Sungai Malang, Sub-district Central Amuntai, H Syukran, on Tuesday.
By the border post, officers can conduct rigorous oversight of outside livestock before entering HSU, so they can deter infectious diseases.
He said, the local duck farmers still wary about bird flu outbreak could happen again in the next few years. "As a result of the bird flu outbreak ranchers lose up to hundreds of millions," said Syukran in a release.
Syukran's concern is reasonable because Sungai Malang Village is one of duck agribusiness development centers that supply the various parts of Kalimantan.
Breeders hope the local government through the Fisheries and Livestock Agency could anticipate the entry of livestock disease outbreaks by establishing checkpoints/spraying poultry at the border and in the poultry markets.
During this time, the anticipation by breeders only a cage spraying done routinely and regularly with the help of toxic disinfectant from the Fisheries and Livestock Agency.
