Martapura, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Center for Freshwater Fisheries Cultivation Mandiangin, South Kalimantan, succeeded in hatchering and rearing kelabau fish (Osteochilus melanopleuora).

Head of Center for Freshwater Fisheries Cultivation BPBAT) Mandiangin Endang Mudjiutami in Martapura on Wednesday said the hatchery and kelabau fish rearing conducting since 2012 until 2015.

"Hatchery produces 5,000 prospective parent (G1) with a size of 200 to 500 grams per head and seed with a size of 5-8 grams per fish as much as 15,000," he said.

He said BPBAT in 2014 has conducted dissemination to farmers to see progress to compare with carp (Cyprinus carpio I).

The comparison is necessary because kelabau fish which is a freshwater
fish can be an alternative crop cultivation and commodities that could be developed.

"Fish kelabau a freshwater fish that has important economic value, because the price is quite expensive and rarely sold in the market," he said.

According to him, the South Kalimantan native waters fish known as Osteochilus Kelabau and Osteochilus Melanopleura has a shape similar to a nilem fish but larger.

"Kelabau adult fish size can reach 1-3 pounds with a soft texture of the meat so tasty consumed and used as side dishes containing animal protein," he said.

Hopefully, seeding has been successfully carried out it makes farmers and fish farmers can develop it so that it can add alternative fish consumption.
