Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has called for improving the quality of Community-based Vocational Training Centers (BLKs) in the country, especially in terms of training materials and facilitators.

Amin conveyed his views on the subject while receiving Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday.

During the meeting, Amin lauded the increasing number of religious-based community institutions, such as Islamic boarding schools, that are served by the training program, said a spokesperson for the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi.

"The Vice President asked that the training and managerial skills at the Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) be improved again, such as teaching, instructor candidates. The quality of teaching and instructors has to be further improved," Baidlowi informed.

Amin also asked that the teaching materials provided by the Community-based Vocational Training Centers be designed to adapt to market developments and demands, so that the benefits can be appropriately applied in everyday life, he added.

"The plan is built based on the needs of these regions. From bottom-up and top-down; so the planning is in accordance with the market needs," Baidlowi said.

Community-based Vocational Training Centers are vocational training facilities set up by the Ministry of Manpower for religious-based communities.

The government program, which was initiated in 2017, aims to provide work skills to students and members of the religious community according to the needs of the world of work.

Community-based Vocational Training Centers are also expected to give rise to more entrepreneurs and jobs.

Based on data from the Manpower Ministry, from 2017 to 2019, 1,113 Community-based Vocational Training Centers have been set up across several areas, such as East Java and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
