Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Legislative Assembly or DPRD along with Livestock Agency exploring the procurement of breeding cattle to NTB to increase production of the local farms.


"We need to conduct further assessment of breeding cattle to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB)," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPRD Hasan Mahlan before heading to Mataram on Thursday.

Based on the information, he said, cows from "Bumi Rancah Gogo" (nickname for NTB) suitable as breeders in improving and developing the cattle population.

"We have long had connection with NTB to meet the needs of beef and seedling types of livestock," he said.

Cattle breeders search related to the availability of resources in South Kalimantan nuktah cattle because the local province, including the best in Indonesia, even gaining recognition of IEC and ISO.

"We hope that with good breeders and availability of nuktah/frozen semen quality, cattle production in future can increased, both in quantity and quality," he said.

Information from the local Animal Husbandry, South Kalimantan has been meat self-sufficient, even has a surplus.

"We have not only been self-sufficient in meat, but a surplus. But we still have to strive to be better, let alone set as national buffer food," he said.
